Last Day
Leo and his Mum were happy to sit down and look at the sights of Melbourne city.
His Dad would be there to pick them up at Mackay airport.

Penguin Parade
Leo was happy to have his Mum back again.
They were both excited about seeing the penguins at Phillip Island.
It was SO windy and cold!
Leo got some penguin practice at the penguin shop.
He helped Nanna and Grandpa find a present for Max too.
He did some special research in the Penguin Museum.
Leo looked through the holes and saw some real penguins in their nests.

He saw some amazing things in the museum.

"No, that's not the penguin I saw in the nest," said Leo.
Look out Leo!
"Oh my gosh!" said Leo.
He ran for his life!
Leo looked back and saw it was only a shark model. It was not a real shark at all.
Into the Mine
It was time to go underground and have a look at the gold mine tunnels.
Leo said, "It's OK Nanna, I'll look after you."
It was this dark in the tunnel as we went down in the train.
When the train got to the bottom there were some lights.
Leo could see where the miners worked.
Leo had a go at digging into the tunnel walls like a real miner.
It was very hard!
Leo could see some tiny bits of gold in a mine wagon full of rock.

Christmas in July
It was Christmas in July at Sovereign Hill.
All the buildings were lit with coloured lights.
The whole building seem to change!
Just like this!
And best of all ...... it snowed!
It was so beautiful!
Welcome Stranger
Leo saw the biggest gold nugget in the world. It was called "The Welcome Stranger."
Leo was not that impressed.
On the Diggings
"Look Nanna! This is how you rock the cradle to find gold."
Leo found gold using his pan.
Nanna wanted to find some gold too.
Leo did not want to let go of his lucky pan.
"Time to do some more panning. I reckon this shovel will help me get more gold."
Leo had Gold Fever!
Tea Time!
The wagon driver yelled out, "Hey Leo! How about a cuppa?"
Leo said,"OK! I'll put the kettle on right now."
China Town
Leo thought he could carry a heavy load just like the Chinese miners.
Maybe one day!
He saw a sign at the Chinese shop and had a look.
He went to the Chinese Temple too.
Exploring
Nanna and Leo went shopping for lunch.
Leo said,"I don't think Mummy would like this shop."
Leo climbed up on the wagon and had fun.
He climbed up onto the back of the wagon and had fun there too.
It was a very cold day so Leo warmed his hands near the fireplace.
He thought he would warm up everything by doing a crazy dance.
He got warm but he was still hungry.
He went and checked on his stew.
"Mmm... I think it needs more chillies," he said after tasting it.
Leo Finds Gold!
Leo saw some gold deep down in a mine shaft.
"I'm going to get it and make Nanna and Grandpa rich!"
He tried winding up the rope but it wouldn't work.

"I'll have to pull the gold up myself."
It was very hard work!
Leo pulled the gold out of the mineshaft.
Then he put it safely away in his treasure box.
"Nanna and Grandpa are going to be very happy," Leo said as he locked the box.

After all that hard work Leo was very hungry. He got busy cooking a stew in the camp oven.
Visiting a Miner's Tent
This is where Leo would have to sleep in this tent.
It was nice and warm in front of the fire.
The miner let Leo pat his cat.
The miner said, "I love cats..... they're delicious!"
Leo liked this tent. He shut the door and said, "I'm going to live here now."
He changed his mind when Nanna and Grandpa walked away.
Leo at School
Leo rang the bell to begin school.

Leo got very excited about sticking the pen into the ink.
He was more excited sticking the pen into his hand.

Sand trays are so much fun.
Nanna said that this was the calculator she used at school.
Grandpa said that Nanna went to a fancy school.
